Woody's Plea for Asylum From the Government He Feared

All of the eyewitnesses recall that Woody requested sanctuary using the words sanctuary, political asylum, and/or amnesty. He explained that he had been threatened by the CIA. Witnesses recall specifics of the threats he spoke of to include: arrest on trumped up charges, bodily harm, electric shocks, torture, and execution.

Woody's sanctuary request was in the tradition of people seeking sanctuary from government prosecution and persecution in churches, based on the historically recognized the right of sanctuary.
