Mission and History of Justice for Woody

Justice for Woody was formed in December of 2001, in the weeks immediately following the shooting. Several of Woody's friends, friends of theirs, and community members came together to console eachother, to honor Woody's legacy, and to advocate for a fair an independent investigation.

Members of Justice for Woody travelled to Brattleboro, some from distant homes, to conduct an investigation in early January of 2002. Statements about the shooting were taken from eyewitness Tommy Thomas before his tragic demise in late January.

Justice for Woody obtained the eyewitness evidence package from the Attorney General's office following the April 2nd release of the Woodward Shooting Report, exonerating the shooters. Using the evidence, Justice for Woody created its own report, which provided a detailed account of the shooting, and exposed evidence of a cover-up in Sorrell's Report. The JFW report was presented at a press conference in September of 2001, which was reported throughout the Vermont media.

Justice for Woody has held and continues to hold monthly rallies in Brattleboro to call for a full and fair investigation. Rallies are open to the public. Notices of upcoming ralles are often posted on the News & Events page.
