Sorrell's 'Investigation' Concludes
Prior to February 18th, the official 'investigation' had two arms which sometimes even pretended to be independent investigations; a local arm headed by State's Attorney Dan Davis, and a state arm headed by Assistant Attorney General Cindy McGuire. Following the recusal by Davis of himself, the pretense of two investigations evaporated, as no special council was appointed to replace Davis, and the Attorney Generals office took it over. Attorney General Sorrell went to extraordinary lengths to stop discovery by the Woodwards' attorneys, successfully petitioning a federal court to enjoin the Woodwards' attorneys from obtaining access to any of the evidence.
On April 2, 2002, The Vermont Attorney General's office finally released the findings of it's 'investigation' into the police killing of Woody. The findings were announced in a press conference attended by about 60 people, in which the Woodward shooting report was released. Extensive analysis of the report is provided here. Unlike the Attorney General's office which has a full time staff to misrepresent and smear Woody, we rely on our volunteer efforts to defend him.
